There are many ways that you can save money on groceries. Cutting coupons is a great way to save money. There are also other ways that would work nicely to keep you in your budget for food shopping.

Since we are a family of six, we have to plan carefully for our food budget every month. I have favorite meals that I usually make at least once a month.

Here are 3 simple tips to help you with grocery shopping.

Meal Planning

This might sound great, but it can be a lot harder to implement. With six people in the house, it becomes obvious really quickly that we all have different tastes.

For planning meals, I tend to stay to what I know everyone will eat and what is usually cheap. This leaves enough room for some play on changing up recipes or being inventive on what you buy.

Our usual meal plan includes mac and cheese, spaghetti, lots of soup, and lots of rice and veggies.

These meals tend to be quick, easy, and fairly cheap.

Food Budget

Create a limit of how much money you can spend on food. We do this anyway since we currently only have one income.

We have to carefully budget out our money for the month and part of that includes figuring out how much we can spend on food.

This allows us to be quite a bit more careful when we go shopping. We tend to avoid fast food runs unless we have the extra cash, and we are selective about what foods we buy.

Leftovers

Since there are six of us in the house, I tend to make quite a bit of food as it is. However, it is a good idea to do bulk cooking and save the leftovers for lunches or for meals the next day.

Kids don’t really mind having leftovers and it is an easy way to have a pre-made meal without spending extra.

Hopefully these 3 tips will help you save some money on grocery shopping. These 3 ideas are staples in my house. We do these almost every month and it has really helped us to have a lower grocery bill.
