I love my mornings! As a mom, it can be so hard to keep that morning routine. It is so tempting to sleep in or tell yourself that self care can wait.

I’ve been a mom for over 10 years now. And let me tell you, self care can’t wait! Taking care of your needs and wants has to be a priority that you keep.

Part of my self care routine is to get up earlier than the rest of the house and take some time for myself. It’s tough but I like my quiet time. I get the chance to reflect and put some effort in myself. And it always cheers me up and gets me motivated to get the day going when I can complete my morning rituals.

So, here are 3 simple morning rituals that I do that have changed my life for the better.

Get Up Earlier

While it seems simple enough, getting up earlier can be a bit tougher to put into practice. Especially if you are like me and you decide to stay up late to get some free time or work on projects that have been neglected all day!

I don’t count “getting up early” to mean a specific time. Some people like doing that, but because I still have younger kids in the house, I can’t work off of this time table yet. Maybe in a few years!

What I like to do: take note of the time that I am crawling into bed. I set an alarm for 6-7 hours later. That way, I can get some sleep (thankfully none of my kids wake up in the middle of the night anymore) and I can still wake up earlier than I normally would in order to get a quiet morning.

And no, this doesn’t work all the time. But it does work most of the time! I am a person that NEEDS my sleep, but I can also admit that I like to have an hour or two in the morning to make sure that I get some time to read and write in my journal.

Exercise

This is something that I thought would be tough, but it turns out I like working out! It’s nice to spend 20 minutes in the morning getting my body moving. It’s time just for me. I can throw on some music and do a quick work out. It’s been very motivating for me, and I have noticed that my energy levels are slowly increasing.

Hot Tea & Lemon Water

I was a coffee drinker for years. I usually drank 2-3 cups a day. But with the research that I have done and my body’s reaction to sugar and caffeine, I decided earlier this year to begin a slow process of getting rid of coffee.

Since I still love hot drinks (as part of my morning ritual), I have switched to tea. My mother and grandmother had tried for years to get me to drink herbal teas but I always balked. Now that I am off of coffee, I decided to buy some herbal teas and see how I liked them now. And now I can’t imagine starting my day without a hot cup of tea!

I have also begun drinking lemon water in the morning. I have read a lot of articles praising how healthy it is to drink lemon water in the morning. While I haven’t noticed a spectacular difference, I do like the taste and it seems to help wake me up for the day.

Once I begun adding these 3 simple rituals into my morning routine, I began to enjoy waking up. Mornings were my time for me to do what I wanted!
